Self Improvement Tip of the Day: The One Question That Really Matters

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: The One Question That Really Matters

However you answer any of these questions, except one of them, is actually irrelevant. They'll certainly give you food for thought, but the only question that really matters is the first one:

How will my life be ten years from now?

The reason this is the only question that really matters is that whatever has happened in your life up until now has no bearing on what happens to your life from now on - unless you let it.

Asked to answer this question, how do people respond?

Many people will draw a complete blank because they either haven't thought about it or don't really want to think about it. This doesn't mean they don't care about their future, it's just that thinking about it is not a priority. They figure that everything will work out ok somehow and there's no need to spend time worrying about it.

Other people will have more of an idea: better off than I am now; I'll have a nicer home; I'll have been promoted and doing well; I'll be happily married with kids; and other similar, if still vague responses.

To be continued….

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: There Are No Real Failures Unless You Give Up

Successful people are also disappointed and affected by setbacks, and get knocked down more often than most. This may happen not once or twice, but dozens or even hundreds of times. But successful people refuse to stay down - because they are resilient and will not be denied their dreams and goals.
Resilience is essential, and Self Improvement Experts offer techniques that can help develop this skill. Successful people know there are no failures because there are lessons to be learned from everything that happens to us, both good and bad.

In fact, it is usually our failures - what we learn from them and how we react to them - that build our character and determine our levels our success. The only real failure is to give up too soon.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Never Failing Is Easy

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Never Failing Is Easy

It is extremely easy to try one or two things and give up if they don’t work out. There is no doubt that when this happens, it is easy to question our abilities and ambitions, or think we were misguided in trying to a build a better life for ourselves and our family. Many people consider themselves failures when this happens and just retreat to their comfort zones.

However, it’s worth remembering that he only way we can guarantee we will never fail is to never try anything.

Just think, if we never tried anything or gave up at the first or second hurdle, we wouldn’t be able use our computers, drive our cars, play sports - or even read, walk and talk!

Self Improvement and Why We Must Be Resilient

Self Improvement and Why We Must Be Resilient

Every person who has ever actively worked on self improvement and bettering themselves and their lives has suffered many setbacks. The most successful people in the world did not become successful overnight. They will have suffered more disappointments, setbacks and even unmitigated disasters, than most people.

Successful people will definitely have made wrong decisions and expensive mistakes, and taken wrong turns on their journey to success. Things may have been going extremely well and they encountered events beyond their control, or made choices, which caused them to lose everything they had built up.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: It Also Takes Action!

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: It Also Takes Action!

This doesn’t mean we will reach our goals with little effort on our part just because re want something enough - there’s no doubt hard work and taking action are a critical part of the process. However, when we have a big enough ‘why’ and focus on how it will feel when we achieve our goals, it often won’t really feel like hard work.

If this sounds fanciful and too simple to be true, Self Improvement experts can explain the process in more detail and provide tools that will help us to harness these powers. The important thing to know is that in does work – with compelling enough ‘whys’ and total belief that we will succeed.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: 'Why' Is Much More Important Than 'How'

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: 'Why' Is Much More Important Than 'How'

The least important part or getting results and reaching your goals is the ‘how’. When we decide what we want, and our reasons for wanting it are strong and compelling to us, and we fully expect to succeed, the ‘how’ will come to us. Our conscious and subconscious minds will focus on our goals, and what we spend most of our time thinking about we will attract into our lives.

This will allow us to make the plans and take the actions that will culminate in us reaching our goals. We will also become connected to the abundance of the universe. We will often be assisted by unexpected events and opportunities, or meet people that can help us.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: The

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: The
Strength Of Our 'Why's' Are Critical

For example, say you have decided you want to save or raise $10,000 in the next six months for no reason in particular, expect perhaps that you are lousy at saving and you want to develop that ability.

Compare that to the ‘why’ of parents who needs $10,000 within six months for a life saving operation for their only child? Which of these two ‘why’s’ is most likely to evoke the overwhelming desire and iron-willed determination to take the actions necessary for success?

This is not to suggest that goals will only be achieved if they are for altruistic reasons. We can achieve any honest goal we set for ourselves if we give ourselves a big enough reason to achieve it.

Self Improvement and the Power of ‘Why’

The first step to self Improvement and achieving any goal is to decide exactly what we want. If we are not totally clear about what we actually want it is impossible to make plans and take action to achieve it.

It is also vital to know why we want whatever it is we want, because it’s our ‘why’s’ that determine the strength of our desire, and our ultimate success in achieving our goals.

The latest research has concluded that the subconscious minds stores and has access to everything we have seen, heard and come across in our entire lives, 24 hours a day. Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Ideas Don't Just Come From Nowhere

It’s very common to for us to get an idea from nowhere that may even fly in the face of the facts as we see them or have analysed them. This can happens when we least expect it, often when we are relaxing, or when our minds are otherwise occupied. As a result we often ignore these insights and ideas that could well have supplied the exact solution we needed.

These flashes of inspiration come from our subconscious minds, and if we let them, they can provide answers to most of the questions and problems we struggle with.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Always Finish Your Most Important Tasks First

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Always Finish Your Most Important Tasks First

To ensure we are making the most effective use of our time at all times we must put at the top of our to-do list the item that is most important, that will achieve the greatest results for us when completed, or will have serious consequences if not completed.

And we must commit to work on and complete that task before moving on to the second item on our list.

There are variations on this technique, and many other more detailed resources available from time management experts that can make us more productive.

However, the simple actions of making a list and prioritising our tasks, then completing our highest value task before doing anything else, will have a huge impact on our productivity.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: It's Much Easier on Paper

Most people, even those people who don’t feel the need to write things down, are amazed to find how much more they can achieve by working from a list. The very act of writing down everything we need to do can also unburden the mind and allow us to think clearer.

But just to write our tasks down is not enough; the critical next step is to prioritise them by listing them in order of importance. When seen on paper, deciding our most important tasks is easier, and things that were preoccupying us, may be seen to be unimportant, and can often be deleted altogether, or delegated.

Self Improvement and Prioritising

Self Improvement and Prioritising

The ability to be able to set priorities and deal with our most important tasks first is and essential skills for self improvement and achieving results. We are all busy and there are many demands on our time and it is very easy to be distracted by other people and events. We may feel we have so many things to do that we don’t know even where to start.

Usually the best place to start is to make a list of everything you need to do. Many people keep the things they have to do in their heads, and never write things do. Any busy person that manages to be highly productive and genuinely feels they are performing effectively without writing things down and prioritising them is very lucky indeed, and this is a great skill.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Learn From Frustration

All successful people have to deal with plenty of frustration as they progress towards their goals, this may even be one of the biggest reasons for their success. They almost certainly learned strategies and techniques to deal with their frustrations, which allowed them to overcome their problems and be more productive, which definitely contributed to their success.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Overcoming Frustration (continued)

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Overcoming Frustration (continued)

There are countless causes of frustration, and what affects one person may have no impact on someone else

There are no simple answers or remedies. Some people simply give up on what they were trying to achieve. Some people walk away from the cause and go onto something else, and find they can then face the problem rationally when they come back to it. Stepping back from the cause of the frustration and making yourself calm down will help us to see things more clearly.

Persistence and determination can often see us through our frustration, particularly if we first make ourselves calm down. Movement can help - standing up and taking a few deep breathes, or going for a walk can help to clear our minds. Sometimes we may need to look for alternatives we hadn’t considered before, or totally different approaches. There are times when we may be out of our depth, in which case we need to recognise this, and be prepared to ask for advice and support from specialists that can help us.

Self Improvement and Overcoming Frustration

Self Improvement and Overcoming Frustration

We all suffer from frustration, and being able to effectively deal with frustration is very important for self improvement. It can be a decisive factor between success and failure.

Frustration can have highly damaging impact on our frame of mind. It can turn a positive person into a negative person. It can inhibit our progress and, in the most extreme cases can completely immobilise us. We can become so wound up with our frustration that we can’t think or act rationally, or we can even become aggressive. Our frustration can often exacerbate the situation and create a vicious circle. If we are convinced that our actions are not working, no matter how hard we try, we are much more likely to reduce, rather than increase, our chances of success.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: You Can Feel Better About Yourself

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: You Can Feel Better About Yourself

Self esteem is about how we feel on the inside, and how we feel inside will affect how we feel and act on the outside. Our self esteem determines our personality and character, and how we react to the experiences and challenges we face in our lives. It also affects our relationships and how we interact with everyone we come in contact with. And it certainly affects how successful and happy we are throughout our lives.

Having healthy self esteem is really about feeling comfortable and confident with ourselves as we are, and appreciating ourselves as human beings. Nobody is perfect, and self improvement is an ongoing journey. The very fact that we are making the effort to improve our lives will help us to feel better about ourselves and boost our self esteem and confidence.

Why High Self Esteem and Self Improvement are Inseparable

Why High Self Esteem and Self Improvement are Inseparable

Self Esteem is how we feel about ourselves, how much we like and respect ourselves.

It has been said that if we don’t like ourselves it is impossible to really like, much less to love, anyone else. Liking and respecting ourselves is very different from vanity or narcissism, which at their most extreme, can become total self-absorption, selfishness and the inability to consider anyone else’s viewpoint or feelings. To have healthy self esteem, on the other hand, is to be comfortable and confident within ourselves, with who we are as people.

Most people have their self doubts, and may be uncomfortable with some of their personality traits. The good news is that we can change almost any part of our personality if it is important to us and we are prepared to put in the necessary effort. This is actually what self improvement is all about, making positive change to our lives. Making changes requires commitment and can be difficult, but there are countless valuable resources available that can provide great advice and
guidance.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Overcoming Common Fears

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Overcoming Common Fears

Fear of rejection, and fear of disapproval and criticism, are other major inhibitors of progress. We can be so concerned that our friends, family or other people, will disapprove of our actions, or even condemn us for trying to do something above their expectations of us, that we can become paralysed and try nothing new.

Almost all fears are learned, many when we are children and others through our life experiences. Many of us become convinced that taking risks is dangerous and we tend to take the safer options.

However, as fears are learned, with determination and effort, we can learn to overcome them and there is advice available from experts that can help with overcoming fears. With or without help, if we are committed to a better life, we need to face our fears. We must work at replacing them, in both our conscious and subconscious minds, with an iron willed determination and commitment to success.

This will allow us to really experience self improvement and to make progress towards amore fulfilling lives.

Self Improvement and Overcoming Fears

Self Improvement and Overcoming Fears

One of the biggest reasons that many people struggle with Self Improvement and achieving happiness and success is because they have difficulty overcoming their fears.

Fears can take on many forms, and almost every one has fears of some sort. Many fears may seem irrational to almost everyone but the person involved, and the most unlikely of people can be all but paralysed by the most improbable of fears.

Probably the most common fear that holds people back from success is the fear of failure. This can stop us from even trying something because we are so terrified of failing. Or, if we do try something, our deep-seated fear of failure can be so strong that we can almost guarantee an unsuccessful outcome to any endeavour.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Change The Way You Feel

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Change The Way You Feel

What can your physiology mean for Self Improvement? It means that we can choose to change our moods and feelings by changing our physiology.

This may sound too good to be true, but we can very easily experiment. We can choose an emotion or a state, (for example, being shy, timid, and lacking in confidence) and act, move and look the way we would if that was how we really felt. If we let it, this will change our mood and state of mind so we actually feel that way. Then act as if totally full of confidence and on top of the world. Thinking about a time when we really felt this way, or visualising another person who exemplifies these qualities can help. How does that feel?

This may seem like ‘acting’ at first, but it will change our thoughts if we allow it to and have an open mind. This simple method can be used to help put us in a better frame of mind any time we choose. We can actually ‘act’ our way to more positive thoughts and feeling by changing our physiology. More details are available from Neuro Linguistic Programming Specialists and other Self Improvement Experts who use these and many other similar techniques for Self Improvement.

How Our Physiology Can Help Our Self Improvement

How Our Physiology Can Help With Self Improvement

It is a well accepted and scientifically proven fact that how we feel mentally and emotionally affects how we look and feel physically. Our thoughts and emotions affect how our bodies feel, our facial expressions, and how we act and move. We can all easily identify someone who is angry, or depressed, or happy, by their face, their body language and their overall demeanour.

However, not so well known is the fact that this works both ways. We can actually change how we feel by changing the way we move, our posture and our and facial expressions. Smiling or laughing is a perfect example. It actually takes a lot less effort and uses a lot less facial muscles to smile than it does to frown. Smiling and laughing also make changes to our blood flow and oxygen levels and stimulates our brain. We all know that smiling and laughing make us feel good and change our mood.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Hard Work Will Always Be Rewarded

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Hard Work Will Always Be Rewarded

There are plenty of people who pride themselves on doing as little as possible, beating the system or getting one over on their bosses. These people are also likely to spend a lot of time complaining about their lot, but probably like things as they are and enjoy the petty office politics. They almost certainly lack the courage or ambition to actually make any changes, and probably never will.

On the other hand, there are people who are ambitious and feel they have made their best efforts, but are being completely ignored by their bosses. In these cases moving on is the only option, and there is no doubt that any person with a strong work ethic and ambition will find a position where they will be appreciated.

Keeping up to date with the latest information in our field and learning new skills and techniques, and working on keeping motivated at all times will certainly help. Whether we desire to work our way up the corporate ladder, or eventually start our own business, having a strong work ethic is one of the most vital of all character traits.

A Strong Work Ethic is Essential for Self Improvement

A Strong Work Ethic is Essential for Self Improvement

If we want to make more of ourselves and our lives, and seek self improvement, it is essential to develop a strong work ethic. If we are in a job or a situation that we dislike, we must be prepared to make a decision. We must decide to either do the best work we can do in that situation, or take action to get out. These are the only real choices if self respect is important to us.

If there are any prospects of promotion in any position, a person who works hard and is eager and willing, will almost certainly be noticed by the people who can help. We may have to be prepared to ignore the negative attitudes of peers and colleagues who prefer to take the easy option of doing the minimum amount required to get by. But this is really only an option if we have no interest in self improvement or building a better life for ourselves.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Decisions Make All The Difference

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Decisions Make All The Difference

Wherever we are in our lives now, it is due to the decision we've made in the past. It can also be due to the lack of decisions we've made. Many people drift through life with no real purpose or plans and never really make many, if any serious decisions.

If we want to make positive changes to our lives and have greater success and happiness, there are many self improvement books, audio programs, seminars and coaching programs that can help enormously.

However, the first step to making any change is making a decision, whether it’s to give up smoking or start that business you’ve been talking about for years. You can have access to the best personal development tools available, but without having made the necessary decisions, little will change. But when we make firm decisions and know exactly what we want, we will find the strength and resources, and take the actions needed to succeed.

Self Improvement Quote of the Day:

”Vacillating people seldom succeed. Successful men and women are very careful in reaching their decisions, and very persistent and determined in action thereafter.” - L. G. Elliott

Making Decisions is Essential for Self Improvement

Making Decisions is Essential for Self Improvement

There is a massive difference between hoping or wishing for self improvement, or that something will change in our lives, and actively deciding to make changes in our lives.

New Year resolutions often fall into the wishing and hoping category. If we say ‘I’d like to give up smoking’ or ‘I need to lose weight’ or ‘I really should get fit’ or ‘I should get a better job’ our chances of success aren’t great. Why not? The wording alone makes these more like a wish list of things that we think will make us happier if they happened. This is a bit like saying “I’d like to win the lottery” and the very lack of conviction makes their odds of success pretty similar.

These are not decisions. Decisions are when we say to ourselves ‘I am going to do whatever I have to do to lose 30 pounds in the next six months’ or ‘I am not prepared to put up with my lousy job any longer’. We need to decide that ‘enough is enough’ and be absolutely serious that this is what we want. We need to be prepared get any information and help we need, form a plan and be prepared to take massive and consistent action. We need to be 100% committed to our decisions and be prepared to follow through whatever it takes.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: How Our Beliefs Can Hold Us Back

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: How Our Beliefs Can Hold Us Back

If we grow up in an environment where money is always scarce and making ends meet is a constant battle, we can easily come to believe that this is the way of the world. We may seriously desire much greater success, but at a subconscious level, we can actually hold ourselves back by imposing self limiting beliefs and expectations on ourselves.

The media only compounds these beliefs. How many films are there featuring stereotypes such as ‘poor but honest and hard working folk’ who have been used and abused in some way by the ‘rich and corrupt millionaire’’? Everyone loves an underdog and these stories can be very entertaining, but they also reinforce the belief that financial success and sound moral values are mutually exclusive.

There are many resources available from Self Improvement Experts to help overcome any self limiting beliefs that can hold us back. Facing up to and overcoming our conditioned beliefs can be one of the most important actions we ever take for our success and happiness.

Why Overcoming Conditioned Beliefs is Vital to Self Improvement and Success

Why Overcoming Conditioned Beliefs is Vital to Self Improvement and Success

Many people who are serious about Self Improvement and making positive changes have difficulty making the progress and getting the results they desire.

There can be many reasons for this, but one common problem is that some people have become so conditioned in their thinking that, although they want success, their deeply held beliefs and conditioning can actually sabotage their best efforts.

The environment that we grow up in, and the influences we are exposed to as children have a huge impact on our thinking, even if we aren’t aware of it. The opinions of our parents, family and friends affect our beliefs and expectations, as do countless other sources such as education, religion, television, films, newspapers, radio and much more.

Self Improvement Tip of the Day: Do You Know What Would Make You Happy?

Clarity and Self Improvement – Why We Must Know What We Want

Clarity and Self Improvement – Why We Must Know What We Want

One of the biggest reasons that many people have trouble with Self Improvement and building a successful and happy life is that they have no idea what they actually want.

If asked what they really want from life, many people will say that they want to be rich, or happy, or financially secure, or not to have to work so hard, or other equally vague answers. And one of the biggest reasons that these people are not making the progress that want is actually BECAUSE these answers are TOO vague. They have no clear idea of what happiness or being rich or whatever, actually means to them.

As a result they drift from day to day, week to week, month to month and year to year. Before they know what happened, the best years of their lives have passed them by and they are probably little, if any nearer to being happy or rich, or whatever they thought they wanted than they ever were.

In order to have the life of our dreams, it is essential to take the time to work out and define EXACTLY what we want in detail.

Self Improvement and the Subconscious Mind

Self Improvement and the Subconscious Mind

Just how powerful is the Subconscious Mind and how can we use it to help our Self Improvement? It’s almost impossible to overestimates the power of the subconscious mind.

Most of our brain’s activity does not occur consciously. It is our subconscious mind that controls all the organs that makes our bodies function, It’s our subconscious mind that allows us to drive our car, listen to the radio and eat an apple without really paying much attention to any of these activities. It’s our subconscious mind that never sleeps, and takes in and stores everything that we see hear or experience, even the things we pay no attention to. It’s our subconscious mind that makes our daily living possible by allowing us to do hundreds, if not thousands of actions every day without even thinking about them of.

You can learn much more about the latest research into the human brain and the subconscious mind here.

Self Improvement and Dealing with Challenges

Self Improvement and Dealing with Challenges

Throughout our lives we all constantly face problems that can be caused either by events beyond our control our through our own decisions. The way we deal with these setbacks will have a great impact on our Self Improvement and success.

It can be very easy to become disheartened and discouraged. Setbacks can dent our confidence and make us question our beliefs. Sometimes we can even feel there is no alternative but to give up on our plans and goals.

However, it’s critical to remember that it is not the actual obstacles and problems themselves that determine our results. What really matters is how we react and respond to our obstacles and problems.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Living in the Present Moment (continued)

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Living in the Present Moment (continued)

Most of us have on ongoing internal dialogue within our minds, even if we aren’t aware of it. We rehash events that have happened to us in the past and replay them in our minds, both good and bad. We also visualise events that we expect to happen to us in the future, both good and bad. When we’re at work we spend time thinking about our domestic lives, and when we’re at home we think about our problems at work. If we’re not careful our days can slip by without us really noticing.

This can happen so easily, that we sometimes need to make a concerted effort to enjoy each present moment – or run the risk of depriving ourselves of a lot of pleasure. Planning for the future is essential, and we can all learn from the past. However, savouring the present moment and enjoying the simple pleasures, like a beautiful sunset, or the joy of a laughing child, or a walk on a deserted beach with a loved one, can make our lives infinitely richer.

“Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” - Buddha

Delayed gratification is something that is practiced by many successful people, even if they aren’t aware of it. In simple terms, delayed gratification means making sacrifices now in order to achieve greater rewards in the future.

Most successful people become successful because they take actions and make sacrifices that less successful people are not prepared to do or make. However, in order to live a well rounded life and enjoy a rewarding lifestyle, we also need to be able to make the most of where we are at any given time.

Who’s Who In Self Improvement – Jose Silva

During his lifetime, Jose Silva was a businessman, athlete, artist, educator, scientist, philosopher, and the founder of The Silva Method. He spent his entire lifetime developing his creative and intuitive abilities and teaching others self improvement by finding their own abilities within themselves.

Silva spent over 20 years studying great minds, researching the human condition, and developing self-help programs before unveiling his findings. Silva’s research findings – The Silva Method — first made its way to the public eye in 1966. Self Improvement and the Power of Concentration

Self Improvement and the Power of Concentration

One the most important Self Improvement skills to develop to ensure our success is the ability to concentrate.

The most intelligent, gifted or educated person is unlikely to succeed without being able to focus on important tasks and concentrate totally on their completion. Any person with even average intelligence, that can discipline themselves to concentrate 100% on their highest priorities, will almost certainly achieve better results than supposedly ‘smarter’ people who can’t or don’t.

It is very easy to be distracted. We are all constantly faced with countless distractions every day, many of which may be more interesting than the tasks we know we should be doing.

Some people find concentrating on one task very difficult, and there are resources available to help develop this vital skill. Or it may just take more self discipline. If Self Improvement and achievement are important to you, it is well worth doing whatever it takes to master the ability to focus and concentrate.

Self Improvement Quote of the Day:

“Concentration is the secret of strength in politics, in war, in trade, in short in all management of human affairs.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
