Self Improvement Secret of the Day: 'Why' Is Much More Important Than 'How'

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: 'Why' Is Much More Important Than 'How'

The least important part or getting results and reaching your goals is the ‘how’. When we decide what we want, and our reasons for wanting it are strong and compelling to us, and we fully expect to succeed, the ‘how’ will come to us. Our conscious and subconscious minds will focus on our goals, and what we spend most of our time thinking about we will attract into our lives.

This will allow us to make the plans and take the actions that will culminate in us reaching our goals. We will also become connected to the abundance of the universe. We will often be assisted by unexpected events and opportunities, or meet people that can help us.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: The

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: The
Strength Of Our 'Why's' Are Critical

For example, say you have decided you want to save or raise $10,000 in the next six months for no reason in particular, expect perhaps that you are lousy at saving and you want to develop that ability.

Compare that to the ‘why’ of parents who needs $10,000 within six months for a life saving operation for their only child? Which of these two ‘why’s’ is most likely to evoke the overwhelming desire and iron-willed determination to take the actions necessary for success?

This is not to suggest that goals will only be achieved if they are for altruistic reasons. We can achieve any honest goal we set for ourselves if we give ourselves a big enough reason to achieve it.

Self Improvement and the Power of ‘Why’

Self Improvement and the Power of ‘Why’

The first step to self Improvement and achieving any goal is to decide exactly what we want. If we are not totally clear about what we actually want it is impossible to make plans and take action to achieve it.

It is also vital to know why we want whatever it is we want, because it’s our ‘why’s’ that determine the strength of our desire, and our ultimate success in achieving our goals.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Your Subconscious Superpowers

The latest research has concluded that the subconscious minds stores and has access to everything we have seen, heard and come across in our entire lives, 24 hours a day. A large proportion of this information has never even registered in our conscious minds, which usually only absorbs those things that we actively pay attention to. It is thought that our insights come from the application of this life experience to the current events we are faced with.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Ideas Don't Just Come From Nowhere

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Ideas Don't Just Come From Nowhere

It’s very common to for us to get an idea from nowhere that may even fly in the face of the facts as we see them or have analysed them. This can happens when we least expect it, often when we are relaxing, or when our minds are otherwise occupied. As a result we often ignore these insights and ideas that could well have supplied the exact solution we needed.

These flashes of inspiration come from our subconscious minds, and if we let them, they can provide answers to most of the questions and problems we struggle with.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Always Finish Your Most Important Tasks First

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Always Finish Your Most Important Tasks First

To ensure we are making the most effective use of our time at all times we must put at the top of our to-do list the item that is most important, that will achieve the greatest results for us when completed, or will have serious consequences if not completed.

And we must commit to work on and complete that task before moving on to the second item on our list.

There are variations on this technique, and many other more detailed resources available from time management experts that can make us more productive.

However, the simple actions of making a list and prioritising our tasks, then completing our highest value task before doing anything else, will have a huge impact on our productivity.

“It's not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about?” - Henry David Thoreau

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: It's Much Easier on Paper

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: It's Much Easier on Paper

Most people, even those people who don’t feel the need to write things down, are amazed to find how much more they can achieve by working from a list. The very act of writing down everything we need to do can also unburden the mind and allow us to think clearer.

But just to write our tasks down is not enough; the critical next step is to prioritise them by listing them in order of importance. When seen on paper, deciding our most important tasks is easier, and things that were preoccupying us, may be seen to be unimportant, and can often be deleted altogether, or delegated.

Self Improvement and Prioritising

Self Improvement and Prioritising

The ability to be able to set priorities and deal with our most important tasks first is and essential skills for self improvement and achieving results. We are all busy and there are many demands on our time and it is very easy to be distracted by other people and events. We may feel we have so many things to do that we don’t know even where to start.

Usually the best place to start is to make a list of everything you need to do. Many people keep the things they have to do in their heads, and never write things do. Any busy person that manages to be highly productive and genuinely feels they are performing effectively without writing things down and prioritising them is very lucky indeed, and this is a great skill.

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Overcoming Frustration (continued)

Self Improvement Secret of the Day: Overcoming Frustration (continued)

There are countless causes of frustration, and what affects one person may have no impact on someone else

There are no simple answers or remedies. Some people simply give up on what they were trying to achieve. Some people walk away from the cause and go onto something else, and find they can then face the problem rationally when they come back to it. Stepping back from the cause of the frustration and making yourself calm down will help us to see things more clearly.

Persistence and determination can often see us through our frustration, particularly if we first make ourselves calm down. Movement can help - standing up and taking a few deep breathes, or going for a walk can help to clear our minds. Sometimes we may need to look for alternatives we hadn’t considered before, or totally different approaches. There are times when we may be out of our depth, in which case we need to recognise this, and be prepared to ask for advice and support from specialists that can help us.

Self Improvement and Overcoming Frustration

Self Improvement and Overcoming Frustration

We all suffer from frustration, and being able to effectively deal with frustration is very important for self improvement. It can be a decisive factor between success and failure.

Frustration can have highly damaging impact on our frame of mind. It can turn a positive person into a negative person. It can inhibit our progress and, in the most extreme cases can completely immobilise us. We can become so wound up with our frustration that we can’t think or act rationally, or we can even become aggressive. Our frustration can often exacerbate the situation and create a vicious circle. If we are convinced that our actions are not working, no matter how hard we try, we are much more likely to reduce, rather than increase, our chances of success.
